Female, 30s, working mom, home cook.  I live the Greater Houston-ish area.

My experience as a liberal arts undergrad turned me into a perpetual student.  I will spend the rest of my life learning about anything and everything that crosses my path, especially food.  Evidence of my inner geek is all over this site.  You’ve been warned.

When I was on maternity leave in early 2009, I had lots of time to think.  Among other things, I realized that the Web 2.0 phenomenon was not only here to stay, it was actually passing me by.  I kicked around the idea of a blog for a long time, since the best I learn about something is by jumping in and doing it.  In the process, I decided that food was the only topic for which I had a true voice.

My mother was very sick with Stage IV cancer at the time, and brainstorming about a blog gave us something to daydream about together.  Ten months later, my brother’s birthday came along, and I baked his favorite: chocolate cake with white fluffy icing.  With a potential blog rattling around in my head (already named WFI), I snapped a photo of the cake, just in case.

It’s about a 30 minute drive from my house to my brother’s, and in the time it took to make the roundtrip to deliver his birthday cake, I had the first entry written in my head.  I came home, registered the site, typed it out, and – to my horror – clicked “publish”.

Mom left comment #6 on that first entry.  Nineteen days later, she died.

Since then, WFI has taken directions I did not foresee during that drive to my brother’s house.  I wouldn’t call myself a creative type, so blogging is teaching me relatively late in life that creations have a way of taking on lives of their own.  I’m going with the flow (also a bit unnatural for me), and I’m loving the ride.

This blog is about food, love, and life.  It’s a place for folks to share stories and exchange ideas.  I hope you’ll join the conversation and leave a comment or two, when the mood strikes you.

If you’d like to email me, you can do so at whitefluffyicing (at) gmail (dot) com.  In addition to any feedback you have, send me pics of food you’ve made from recipes seen here – I love posting them to the site.

Thanks for stopping by!
