i do love your dad's hands. They could do anything; fix anything. Thinking of his "thick and compact" hands--remember how he used to say, "The shoe box fits better than the shoe." I love that cause I can so relate to it.
The cupcake looks yummy and the photograhy is awesome.
love you

Loved your story. I too had tears in my eyes.

I did make this recipe in 2011. Had a goal to make it all year long and then FINALLY got a chance and the time for a New Years Eve Party.

Had a few mishaps - like using 4 cups of flour instead 1 1/3 cups...had to start over. thankfully I didn't bake the cake yet. Second cake - forgot the nuts and the vanilla. Still tasted great. Put the nuts in the frosting instead and it worked just fine. Cake was a hit and is a very decadent way to end the year and start the year! Thank you for sharing your story and your venture making this lovely cake!

I think of this often. Not particularly Andy's story, but about having room in our "inn" and about Andy and Paula's selflessness with their children. All 20 of them. They are amazing folks, those two.

Well done my friend. I was telling Marc this morning (given this is my first Christmas back in the work force) I am not finding the time to breathe in and out and think about Christmas. Our minister has had wonderful messages this season--ones I knew I could carry throughout my week yet I've totally forgotten them by Monday afternoon.

Thanks for the reminder of what it's all about. We can all relate to fried chicken...that's why you're so good at this.

[...] White Fluffy Icing: “The skin was beautiful and delicious, thanks to the lemon oil… I did achieve golden skin, juicy white meat, and well-cooked dark meat all at the same time… If you’re looking to shake things up a bit, I would definitely recommend this recipe, as it has a lot of complex flavors that work pretty well together.” [...]
