What’s with the name?

White fluffy icing was the first food I can remember getting excited about, both for the icing itself and the fact that it meant something special was happening (usually, a birthday).  For details, check out the inaugural post.

When do you update the blog?

I used to post every Monday night, but now it’s more freestyle (and less often, honestly).  Additional off-topic notes or updates (aka “lagniappe”) are posted on an ad hoc basis, when the mood strikes, or when there’s something to tell.  See the first lagniappe post for more info on that idea.

You’re a working mom.  When do you have time to cook all this stuff?

Sometimes I’m just telling stories and attaching a favorite recipe — I don’t necessarily cook the things I write about in real time.

Okay then, when do you have time to write all this stuff?

I type at lightning speed, so that part doesn’t take long.  Most of the stories have been rattling around in my head for years, so it’s just a matter of getting them down.  Actually, the bulk of the time I spend blogging is spent fussing over the photos and layouts, which is probably surprising, given how underwhelming those components are.  Anyone want to volunteer to be a pro bono WordPress consultant?

If you’re obsessed with food, why don’t you work in the industry?

For lots of reasons.  The hours are terrible, and it’s hard work.  There’s a redundancy factor, too — I wouldn’t be too jazzed about making the same dishes (or even the same type of dishes) over and over and over.  And when you cook for a living, you’re usually not cooking for people you love, which is really what it’s all about for me.

I saw a recipe on one of your posts, and I want to find it again.  Why don’t you have a search feature?

I do have a search feature!  There’s a little search box at the top right of the page.  Search for any word and a list of all the entries containing that word will show up.  Enjoy!
